Herbal Hair Loss Remedies That Offer Hope

Summary:
This article looks at some of the most promising herbal remedies currently being used to tackle premature hair loss.

Herbs hold an obvious appeal for many people because they support the body's natural healing mechanisms to target the cause of the problem, as opposed to merely tackling the symptoms. It would be wrong to present herbal hair loss remedies as a miracle solution for all sufferers - there is however growing evidence to support the view that some herbal remedies offer real hope to many people.

Let's examine the case for some of the more popular remedies to determine if they're worth trying.

Ginkyo biloba - this popular herb is thought to improve blood circulation to the brain and skin. Herbalists believe that the increased flow of blood to the brain area delivers more nutrients to the hair follicle thus promoting hair regrowth. The recommended dose is 120-160mg of dry extract each day spread over three doses.

Green tea (Camellia sinesis) - it is thought that catechins found in green tea may inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase that converts testosterone into hair-unfriendly DHT. It is therefore believed to be effective in preventing and treating male pattern type baldness. You should drink several cups of green tea each day or take it in capsule form as instructed by the manufacturer.

He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum) - also known as Fo-Ti, this Chinese herb has traditionally been used to reduce hair loss. It is found in many commercial preparations, or in tea and capsule form.

Pygeum (Pygeum africanum) - derived from the bark of an evergreen, it works in a similar way to green tea. It is widely used to treat prostate problems and male pattern baldness. Users should take 60-500mg per day in pill or capsule form.

Saw palmetto (Seranoa repens) - this is the current treatment of choice for many men due to its ability to protect the prostate, slow hair loss and encourage hair regrowth. It forms the core element of many commercially prepared hair loss treatments but can easily be obtained in its pure form. The recommended dose is a 160mg capsule twice each day, but make sure the ingredients are made from the berry extract not the dried berries themselves.

Stinging nettle (Urtica diocia) - this has long been favored as a means of preventing hair loss due to its ability to block the conversion of testosterone into DHT. It can be taken in pill or capsule form with an optimum dose of 50-100mg per day. It is particularly effective when combined with pygeum and saw palmetto.

Help With Hair Loss - Save Those Folicals

Summary:
Hair loss can be an inevitable fate for some ... both men and women.  There are some common applications and treatment that can help with the condition of hair loss.

Today, many women and men are looking for help to cure hair loss. It is a problem affecting one’s social life. Most of us feel that the outer appearance  is an important thing to be successful. Hence there is great need for hair loss products..

Hair loss treatments are available in different forms such as medicines, lotions, and shampoos. To choose the drug that is right for you, you first need to figure out the cause of your hair loss. There are many reasons for losing hair: aging, heredity and hormonal imbalance. DHT, Dihydrotestosterone is an important precursor for  hair loss. DHT will block the flow of essential nutrient to the hair, which in turn stops healthy hair growth.

Saw Palmetto is a powerful herb that lowers the DHT in the body by 5 alpha-reductase blockades. Saw Palmetto stops hair loss by blocking the cell membrane receptor sites in the hair follicle where DHT might get absorbed.

Another herb called Nettle Root also provides hair loss cure by preventing two enzymes viz., aromatase and 5 alpha-reductase, which makes estrogen and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) respectively. Research confirmed that these two enzymes have been blocked completely by the Nettle Root extract.

A cure of hair loss can also be achieved by choosing the medications that block DHT. Hair Genesis, NuGen, and Revivogen are the most suitable medications to block DHT in the scalp. Out of these three products, Revivogen is the most popular one. It fights against the thinning of hair by minimizing the DHT level in the scalp.

Viviscal, Nisim, Folligen and Tricomin are the commonly available shampoos, scalp lotions and conditioners that help to stop hair loss. Viviscal is used extensively for curing hair loss. It is available in tablet form also. Folligen is available with copper peptides to treat hair loss. Tricomin is available in three forms as spray, shampoo and conditioner. It also contains copper.

Trace minerals such as Zinc and magnesium also help to stop hair loss. Zinc is mainly helpful in fighting against skin problems such as boils, sore throats and acne. In addition to this, Zinc plays a crucial role in cell division.

Though there are so many medicines are available to help treating hair loss, only two medications (Rogaine and Propecia) have been approved by the FDA. Rogaine and Propecia are used by men all over the world to stop hair loss.

Hair Loss- Understand Hair Growth To Fight Hair Loss

Summary:
Every one of us dreads losing hair. There will be a rare human being who does not. Hair makes us look good and none of us wants to lose it.

Every one of us dreads losing hair. There will be a rare human being who does not. Hair makes us look good and none of us wants to lose it. There are many of us who are comfortable after losing their hair. But that is more a reflection of their tremendous confidence. If you are one of those who are worried about hair loss, please read on.

Hair growth cycle-

Our hair does not grow all together. We see our scalp full of hair and think that all hair is growing. But the truth is different. Hair grows, rests for sometime, and then falls and a new hair takes its place to grow. At any point of time about ninety percent of our hair is growing and the ten percent is either ready to fall or is falling. When we shampoo our hair, this falling hair sheds itself. Everyday we lose about 50- 100 strands of hair. That is perfectly normal. If that is causing any worry to you, stop. That is normal. The best person to tell you if you might be facing hair loss is your hair stylist. Get your scalp examined and find out if hair is thinning from any place or a patch is forming.

Hair loss reasons

We lose hair for many reasons. The primary reason is hereditary. The second is alopecia aerta. And then there are many diseases and changes in body that bring about hair loss. The last kind of hair loss is rectified as soon as the condition is over. Most of the women lose lot of hair after pregnancy. But they recover it soon. Many other conditions make hair fall like that. We should be more bothered about hereditary loss and alopecia aerta. I think that you have got a brief introduction to hair growth cycle and hair loss. In the next articles, I will talk about the reasons and remedies of hair loss.

Hair Loss Treatment- If You Have Alopecia Aerata?

Summary:
Alopecia Aerata is one of the common reasons of hair loss. This is an autoimmune disorder in which the body destroys its own hair.

Alopecia Aerata is one of the common reasons of hair loss. This is an autoimmune disorder in which the body destroys its own hair. The hair is lost in coin sized patches and then comes back after some months or years. The pattern of loss and re- growth is unpredictable. Many people lose all the hair due to Alopecia Aerata. What treatment options are available? Let us discuss them so that you get your hair back as early as possible.

Minoxidil-

Minoxidil solution is a proven therapy for hair loss of this type. Once you begin applying minoxidil, you may see your hair growing again after about three months. You should consult your doctor about the strength of minoxidil solution that you should use.

Steroids-

Steroids can help regain hair in alopecia aearata. Your doctor will inject steroid on the balding patch. Topical application of steroids is not effective. Oral steroids may cause side effects. That is why steroids are always injected in the balding patch. Though the injections effective, they are painful.

Anthralin- this is an immunomodulator. It is a tar like substance and is applied for an hour and then washed away. Your doctor may combine more than one treatment for you.
All of these are proven methods. Trying natural or miracle products will only make you lose your precious money. Use time tested and science-backed solutions for hair loss.

Since 1990s stem cells are used in many treatments. Nowadays for hair regeneration, hair loss stem cell therapy is proving to be a good technique.

First of all we need to know what stem cell is. Stem cells are the first building blocks of our body. We all started as a stem cell and then subsequently divided into millions of cells as we grew over time. Then a reverse process of decreasing stem cells starts, as we get older. The process gets faster if we suffer from diseases like heart attack, stroke, cancer, diabetes etc.

In stem cell therapy, stem cells are used as a replacement of damaged or dead cells in the body. On the scalp dead cells don’t grow hair and the area becomes bare, which we call bald. Now if we replace the dead cells on the scalp with new ones through stem cell therapy then the bald spot can be transformed into an area full of hair. This is the basic premise of stem cell therapy for treating baldness. After using this therapy to treat baldness, particularly male pattern baldness, some have experienced good results and some have not had good results. The research is still on and hopefully the success rate will improve in the coming years.

In the scientific lab, stem cells are produced and then these cells are injected in the bald areas of the scalp. If the first attempt to generate hair does not work then the doctors try again but the result is not guaranteed as the process is at an initial stage. If you want to try stem cell therapy for hair loss you can contact a dermatologist for the purpose.

Hair Loss Solutions…Bonafide Cures or Bald Face Lies?

Summary:
Although hair loss may not seem as important a health concern as cancer or heart disease, it can be very traumatic for those persons who experience it. By becoming knowledgeable about hair loss and its causes, and by seeking the services of a qualified professional, hair loss can many times be remedied, or at least controlled. This article explores the world of hair loss.

PART 1 Very much a highlighted news topic, the stem cell research controversy continues. Reasons for the “need” of research include possible help for persons with terminal cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injury…and hair loss. Hair loss is an important subject for the many men and women who experience it. The careless remarks and gratuitous jokes about baldness made by people with full heads of hair only add to their humiliation. Some people even experience anger that their hairline threatens to become as receded as the waters of the Red Sea for the Hebrews so many years ago. Countless people wonder whether or not there really exists a cure for hair loss. Before we answer that question, we should first answer the questions, “What is hair loss?” and “What causes it?”
What is Hair Loss? The term “Alopecia,” more commonly known as “baldness,” includes various disorders that involve the lack of hair where it would normally grow; especially when it involves the head. The most common form of baldness is a progressive hair-thinning condition that occurs in some adults. Each piece of hair has a follicle located at the end of the hair shaft. Follicles act as the hair’s incubator;” it is where the hair is produced. Each strand of hair has a matrix, located at the base of the follicle. Cells in this area produce keratin, a tough protein that makes up the hair shaft, and melanin. Melanin stains the keratin, giving hair its color. The activity of each follicle is dependant on surrounding follicles. Healthy hair follicles continuously grow. About 85% of the hair follicles on a healthy scalp are actively growing at the same time, and hair loss is not a problem. Each strand of hair continues to grow for about 4 years, before going into a dormant period of about 4 months. On an average, only about 15% of the total amount of hair follicles on a healthy scalp is dormant at any one time. It is when a higher percentage of hair follicles stop growing at one time that hair loss becomes a problem.
What Happens During Hair Loss Follicles are nourished by a network of capillaries, bringing nutrients to the base of the follicle. The amount of blood available to the scalp and to the follicles is determined by the health of the capillaries in the scalp, as well as the arteries in the neck and temple. Problems develop when hair follicles do not receive proper nourishment. For instance, some women experience noticeable hair thinning after menopause, after the production of estrogen slows down or stops. Hair loss in women is usually more diffuse then in men. Women seldom have bold spots; a large area of the head may show sparse hair growth instead. Only about 15% of women are afflicted by such a high degree of hair loss that it becomes obvious. In men the hormone DHT can harm hair follicles, making them shrink, or cause them to prematurely enter into the resting stage of the hair cycle. When this happens the result is often the characteristic U-shaped pattern of hair loss at the top of the head.
What Causes Hair Loss? Predisposition can be one factor as to why one person begins losing their hair as they age, while another person does not. Various other disorders, such as obesity, allergies, and diabetes can also be attributed to predisposition. Sometimes hair loss can be the result of side effects caused by certain prescription drugs. Of course, these factors can often be countered. Where you may not be able to reverse predisposition, you can sometimes contain it. By changing lifestyle, maintaining a customized healthcare regimen, and eating a well-balanced diet, many such factors can be alleviated or turned around.
More about Hair Loss When it comes counteracting or slowing down the process of hair loss, products such as Rogaine, Dutasteride, and Propecia can help. Scalp exercises and massages using special preparations can also help. Telogen Effluvium (TE) is a type of hair loss more common in women then men. It is characterized by high numbers of hairs that enter into the resting stage of the hair cycle, all at one time. This usually causes profuse shedding, as opposed to bald patches. This can be an overwhelming experience for women, especially those who once had luxuriant hair. TE can be brought on by prolonged emotional or physical stress, severe illness, post-pregnancy hormone changes, or crash dieting. Once the triggering factor has been removed, TE hair loss usually stops. Hair can grow back in even without treatment, usually in 6 months to a year. With proper treatment, hair growth can be accelerated. Some professionals recommend bringing the level of iron stored in the body up to 70 or 80 ng/ml (nanograms per milliliter). The range of iron normally stored in a woman’s body might be between 12 – 50; the lower end not high enough to speed hair growth. Rogaine can also be used for a few months to start the TE recovery process; once hair does begin to grow back in, Rogaine use can stop. As mentioned earlier, crash dieting can trigger TE in both men and women. As a matter of fact, diets of less than 1,200 calories a day can trigger sudden hair loss. This is especially true of diets low in protein. When the body lacks proper protein it “borrows” by shifting healthy hairs into dormancy to conserve protein. Although hair loss resulting from inadequate diets is most often temporary, it can result in permanent loss of hair in persons genetically predetermined towards hair loss. Also, extreme weight loss in men can increase the production of androgens – male sex hormones that kill hair follicles. Once hair follicles are destroyed, there can be no re-growth of hair. In part-2 we of this article we discuss effective treatments for hair loss and where to go for help.

There can be several disorders or diseases that result in hair loss. Hair loss is an indication that there can be a problem that is happening inside your body. One disorder that is related to the changes on the scalp is known as seborrheic dermatitis. This is a common inherited disorder and should be treated continuously and as soon as possible.

Seborrheic dermatitis is also often known as dandruff, eczema or cradle cap. When you have seborrheic dermatitis, you experience a change in the skin texture on your scalp. This will include either greasy or oily areas over the scalp or white flakes that are coming from your scalp. You are also likely to experience itching and redness in the scalp area, and also hair loss.

If you notice any of the above mentioned symptoms, then you may be having seborrheic dermatitis. For treatment, you can use a medicated shampoo for direct application on your scalp. Depending on the shampoo, it will contain a variety of ingredients that will help.

If the medicated shampoo fails to arrest your hair loss and scalp disorder, you can get a prescribed medication from a health care provider in order to get rid of seborrheic dermatitis. These shampoos will contain medications such as salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin and selenium. The prescribed medications will have stronger amounts of these ingredients in them, as well as added ketoconazole and corticosteroids. You can also massage your head in order to get the balance in the scalp back to a normal condition. This is especially effective with children who are dealing with seborrheic dermatitis.

While seborrheic dermatitis can easily be treated with the right shampoos and care for the hair, it cannot easily be prevented. Once you have the symptoms, it will be likely that you may get them again. You will need to continue to use the shampoos that have the medication in them and take the necessary measures in order to prevent the problem from coming back.

In addition, make sure that you have an adequate supply of essential vitamins and supplements. As always, a healthy diet helps. Adopt good hair care tips to prevent more hair loss.

If you are having a difficult time from preventing this problem, then you can consult a health care provider about possible treatments. Having an understanding seborrheic dermatitis and knowing how to treat the problem will help you in maintaining a healthy scalp and hair.

Hair Loss Prevention - Save your Hair Now!

Summary:
Men, do you like to style your hair everyday? Do you use gels and creams and waxes to make it sleek and cool? Women, do you use hairdryers or curling irons daily? Do you stretch your hair with braids or ponytails, and even overuse hair color?

Men, do you like to style your hair everyday? Do you use gels and creams and waxes to make it sleek and cool?

Women, do you use hairdryers or curling irons daily? Do you stretch your hair with braids or ponytails, and even overuse hair color?

Frequent abuse is one of the causes of hair loss. If we want to save our hair, this is the first step that we should be aware of. See if you are observing the following:

Avoid rubbing your hair too vigorously and styling your hair when it’s wet. This can cause it to stretch and break. Be careful in using permanent dyes or color on your hair. These chemicals usually cause hair damage.

Eat your vitamins! Our hair is composed of a protein called keratin. It is good to find a vitamin or food supplement that will nourish this type of protein. Also, take vitamins that have antioxidants. These fight free radicals that can damage healthy cells in our body including our hair.

Have a well-balanced diet. Eat foods that have high protein content such as Lean Meats, Peanuts and Almonds, Eggs, Legumes, Oatmeal, Whole Grain Bread and Cottage Cheese. Keeping yourself physically healthy will prevent you from taking medications that can cause hair loss.

Regular exercise and getting enough sleep naturally maintains overall health, as well as lowering stress in our lives. You may ask, are stress and hair loss related?  Absolutely!

If you are currently in the middle of a problem, you may be stressed. If you are putting a very high demand of your physical and mental energy to perform higher and above your capacity, you may be stressed too. Usually, hair loss happens after the onset of a very stressful situation or event. Telogen Effluvium is the medical name given to hair loss induced stress.

When you realize that you are stressed, you must think of ways on how you can effectively manage it. One good technique is the “art of disassociation.” It is a kind of meditation you can do by imagining that the cause of your stress is moving farther and farther away from you. You can feel a sense of calmness and it will show in your face and in your actions. This is an important tool to allow your body to calm down and remove built-up stress.

Another tool to use in managing stress is to have a form of relaxation that you enjoy doing. For example, if you like reading or watching a good movie, then do these activities often to release stress. Engaging in sports is the best way that some people use to relax themselves. Pick out a fun activity that will suit you.

All of us want beautiful and healthy hair. Therefore, consciously caring for it should be a daily habit. It is better to be safe than sorry so don’t take your hair for granted! It is sometimes unfortunate that we appreciate what we have when we already lost them. Take care of your hair before it’s too late.

Hair Loss of the Bariatric or Gastric Bypass Patient

Summary:
You are most-likely aware that having Bariatric or Gastric Bypass surgery DOES cause you to experience “some” type of hair loss as you lose the weight so rapidly.  You’ve heard the rumors, and they are TRUE to the point that you WILL LOSE some hair… but you will not be bald in the least!  Find out how you can minimize your certain hair loss.

DON’T STRESS YOUR SCALP…. Avoid SOME Hair Loss!

In all of my years attending a support group, NEVER have I seen one bald person yet!  So rest assured that although you DO lose “some” hair, it won’t be all.

Let’s simplify this topic by putting it in a question/answer format:

Q:  Why do we lose some hair?
A:  As a pre-op person, you used to consume between 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day.  But once you have the surgery, your caloric intake is drastically reduced to a mere 300-600 calories a day.  This puts the body in an “emergency” mode as it thinks something is terribly wrong, and it begins to focus ONLY on supporting the vital organs that will sustain life.  Hair has never been under the category of a “life-sustaining” organ; therefore, the body puts the hair on the back-burner until it is sure that the body is going to be okay enough to again send nutrients to the hair.

Q:  When does hair loss begin?
A:  It normally will begin anywhere from one month after surgery and last until about 6 months after surgery.  Of course, this can begin during the third month or even extend beyond the sixth month.  It varies from person to person.

Q:  How much hair is lost?
A:  Some will jokingly tell you that they could build a cat out of all the hair they lost, but that is not true.  While you will notice some handfuls come out as you wash your hair in the shower, see more than normal in your comb or hairbrush, and perhaps even see some on your pillow when you wake up in the morning --  this is nothing to be alarmed over.  IT WILL STOP FALLING OUT once the body begins to feel that life is “normal” and it will trust that it’s okay to send nutrients to the hair again.  Be patient and know that it DOES STOP in time.

There ARE some TIPS that will help you NOT experience so much hair loss, however…..

DO NOT wear a hat, scarf, head bands, tight barrettes, ponytail holders or anything similar that will pull or tug on the follicles of your hair.  Pulling and pushing on the hair weakens it when it is already eager to fall out.  Avoid these items for at least the first six months after surgery.

DO NOT stress the hair with hot treatments such as hairdryers, curling irons, or hot rollers.  Stand in front of a fan to dry your hair in a hurry and use good hair jells to create some curl if you want.  Sprays are okay too.  Even hair color is okay IF you do it sparingly rather than the standard automatic every 6 weeks.  Try to go 8 weeks in between hair coloring.  Perms are a bit more stressful, though some have had success doing them.  You’ll have to judge this for yourself as you evaluate this for yourself.  You can always be confident in asking your hairdresser about it if you are not sure.

DO TRY a new hair style.  As heavy people, we often relied on our hair’s BEST looks to draw attention away from our extra pounds.  But as you are losing, people aren’t noticing your hair anymore… they are noticing the pounds falling off, which is a perfect time for you to consider totally changing your hair style IF it will help you manage it better and also keep more of it on your head.  Long hair is a heaviness on the head, which does stress and pull at the hair follicles.  So perhaps a shorter style would help your delicate hair stay ON the head.  Just as your body is experiencing a “makeover”, why not consider your hairstyle as well…. Especially if it will help you KEEP more hair?

DO TRY a product called NIOXIN that you can purchase from your beauty salon.  It’s a three-step process of a product that helps cancer patients keep more of their hair as it falls out.  It strengthens the follicles.  I personally used this product, and I fully believe it helped more of my hair stay attached than what might have happened had I not used it.  I noticed a remarkable difference when I used this product.  And I can tell you that others also have similar testimonials on this product.

DO TRY to remember that your hair is only falling out temporarily and it will soon STOP and STAY ON again!  Some people have experienced that their hair soon becomes healthier than they’ve ever had before!  Sometimes the texture even changes…. Sounds FUN, huh?  It can be!

BOTTOM LINE:  Have a GOOD ATTITUDE about your hair… take care of it, baby it, and you’ll find that you’ll be out of that FALLING OUT Zone shortly!  Today’s hairstyles ARE more relaxed, and with the right cut, you’ll look just as glamorous as a celebrity!  Don’t despair…. Just know that we’re NOT a group of baldies!!!

Hair Loss Myths

Summary:
Eliminate hair loss myths and focus on the techniques that really stop hair loss.

Not surprisingly, hair loss myths are more well known than hair loss facts.  Since hair loss is such a common and unwelcome condition, the public has been flooded with hair loss myths to promote sales of hair loss prevention products.  Many companies have jumped on the hair loss bandwagon because of our own enormous desires to eliminate hair loss from our lives, not to mention the unlimited amount of money that we (the public) are willing to spend on this quest.  This makes the hair loss market ripe for perpetuating myths that will increase sales.  But, for the most part, they are just that, myths.

Some of the more common hair loss myths are as follows:  Male Pattern Baldness comes from the mother’s side of the family and skips a generation.  Not true.  There is no one single gene that causes baldness.  Most researches believe that MPB is a result of several different genes, inherited from both parents, interacting with each other to cause hair loss.

Hair loss myth #2:  Pattern baldness affects only men.  Just ask any women suffering from pattern baldness, it’s not true.  In fact, hair loss is just as common in women as it is in men, it just usually occurs in a less virulent form and is easier to hide.  Also, women’s hair tends to thin out over the entire scalp area, whereas men’s hair thins in patches and at the forehead.

Hair loss myth #3:  Poor blood flow to the scalp area causes hair loss.  This is a misconception that has been perpetuated by companies selling hair loss products for years.  Ask any dermatologist and they will tell you, bald scalps have just as much blood flow as scalps full of hair.  It is because of this blood flow to the bald scalp that hair transplants work so well.

Hair loss myth #4:  If you haven’t lost your hair by 40, you aren’t going to.  Again, not true.  Age has nothing to do with it.  If you are genetically predisposed to loose your hair, you are going to.  Just be grateful you made it to 40 with your hair still intact.

Hair loss myth #5:  Stress makes your hair fall out.  Okay, in some part, this is true, but it takes a very traumatic event to cause enough stress that your hair falls out.  The common stress we experience on a daily basis will not make our hair fall out.  In fact, some stress can actually increase the production of hair.

Okay, I could go on and on about hair loss myths and not run out of things to talk about.  My point is this.  Most of the facts we think we know about hair loss are actually hair loss myths.  If you are suffering from hair loss, consult your doctor.  Your physician will be able to give you a factual reason for your hair loss and advise you on what types of treatments would work in your specific case.

Hair Loss- Let Us Discuss The Reasons

Why should perfectly good hair begin falling down? When they do begin falling, we worry endlessly and try to find remedies. What are the reasons for hair fall?  Let us try and find out as many of them as we can and find out how to stop that.

Hair loss - some reasons

The main reason other than genetic or a disorder is mishandling of hair. When we have good hair, we want to experiment with that. We get it colored. Go for perming. Get other heat and chemical treatments done to look good. Every treatment that changes hair does it by hurting the cuticle. After many treatments the cuticle cannot take it and breaks down. The cortex (inner part of hair) also fails and hair breaks. If the chemicals reach the pore and destroy the follicle growth there, you lose the hair.

Chemotherapy in cancer makes one loose hair. That is temporary and because of the therapy. After sometime the hair grows back. Some medicines cause hair loss. If you are on medication and are suffering hair loss, please ask your doctor about possible connection. Diet is another reason. Low iron or proteins may cause hair loss. Women lose hair after pregnancy but get them back. Unless you are suffering from alopecia aerta or genetic hair loss, you can easily find out the reason and rectify that. Please talk to your doctor about any supplements that can help you have healthy hair. Also discuss possible reasons specific to you for your hair loss.

You've probably noticed how every single shampoo and conditioner commercial emphasizes (and most of the time, over-emphasizes) the need to have long and silky tresses (for the women) and healthy and fuzz-free hair (for the gentlemen). Much has been said about hair being a person's crowning glory. You've probably noticed how every single shampoo and conditioner commercial emphasizes (and most of the time, over-emphasizes) the need to have long and silky tresses (for the women) and healthy and fuzz-free hair (for the gentlemen). In the metro, there's also a burgeoning of parlors and salons offering a variety of hair care services to cater to the hair whims of every customer. But the reality is that, not everyone is blessed with picture-perfect mane. Men and women have to deal with hair woes such as dry and oily hair, dandruff, split ends, and hair loss. Since premature loss of hair is hereditary, some people have to face the brutal fact that they would be bald sooner, not later, than they expect. It's an amazing thing to know that several kinds of hair loss treatment are now up for grabs in the market.

According to experts in the field of hair care, women should note that men are not the only ones who have the tendency to experience and suffer hair loss condition. It only seems men are more prone to having partial or complete balding but this doesn't mean women are safe. If a person is starting to notice excessive hair fall and bald spots, he or she should immediately consult his or her doctor. Although a person doesn't have any history of premature loss of hair in the family, he or she can get bald as a side effect of a particular drug. Aside from medication and genes, one can experience premature loss of hair because of an existing disease or illness such as cancer.

Nowadays, hair loss treatments may come in the form of pomade or surgical enhancement. He or she can choose among different brands or methods according to his or her budget and preference.

How do surgical or non-surgical treatments actually fight a person's biological tendency to lose excessive amount or hair? Manufacturers behind most kinds of hair loss treatment like growth stimulators, super oxide dismutase and anti-antrogens explain that these services or products generally stimulate hair follicles to ensure production of healthier and stronger hair strands. But the more effective treatment is DHT inhibitors which prevent 5-Alpha Reductase and testosterone from teaming up and thus, resulting in noticeably less hair fall. Though hair loss is an inevitable reality for some, one can do something to prevent and fight it.

There are several factors that can result in hair loss. One common disease is a disorder known as lichen planus. This particular disease is not in itself a direct cause but it is an important trigger and often causes complications with the scalp and can lead to this problem.

Lichen planus is more of a skin disorder that also affects other areas of the body. Thus, it can not only affect the skin and body, but also the scalp. When the scalp is affected, hair loss is experienced. Licen phanus is usually considered to be an allergic reaction and is often associated with a poor immune system. Some believe that lichen planus is triggered from excessive stress. Stress weakens the body’s immune system and render it susceptible to infection and other health symptoms such as hair loss. The chances of getting another lichen planus attack rise with the first affliction, even with treatment and prevention measures.

Lichen planus is most identifiable by the changes in the skin that occur. There will be itching in certain areas of the skin, as well as skin lesions that will appear in a variety of places. The skin lesions will have a variety of attributes related to their shape, size and color, all which will help you in identifying the disorder. There may also be nail abnormalities, such as ridges in the nails that begin to appear. The skin lesions will then begin to move into the mouth area and cause your mouth to feel dry. From here, lichen planus will begin to show on the scalp area and hair will be lost from the irritation from the scalp area.

Once you notice these symptoms, do not wait too long to treat the lichen planus. In most cases, the symptoms are not severe enough and will simply go away over time. However, there is also the possibility of the symptoms become full blown and it will be more difficult to treat at that point in time.

For treatment, you can take prescribed medications. Antihistamines are useful in helping to treat lichen planus. Vitamin A in the form of ointments and creams are also considered to be effective. It can be expected that this disorder will disappear after a few months or after a longer amount of time.  Also, ensure a healthy diet and lifestyle to boost your immune system.

If you notice both the above mentioned symptoms and also experience hair loss at the same time, then it is possible that you can be having lichen planus.  To be absolutely sure, it is best to seek a professional diagnosis. Lichen planus can cause much discomfort to you as it affects your physical appearance. Understanding what the symptoms of lichen planus are and knowing what to do will help you repair your skin and treat yourself from hair loss.

Every hair follicle has life cycle of between two and six years, which ends with the hair falling and a new one replacing it. 90% of the hair is at the growing stage, ANAGEN, at this stage the hair grows about 0.3 mm everyday and it last three years. The next stage is resting, KATAGEN, at this stage the hair does not grow and stay static for three weeks.  The last stage takes place when the hair falls, TELOGEN, it can take up to three months to the hair to fall. Normally, at this stage new hair is growing.

Hair loss is usually diagnostic when large areas of the scalp are left with only thin hair.  Usually people notice hair loss when they comb, or at the shower.  The hair loss results from the pressure on the hairs during these activities, and not necessarily indicates that you have hair loss problem. One way to test if we are losing our hair is to pull your hair if you end up with more than 4-5 hairs in your hand you might have a problem.  Another test is counting the hairs on your pillow in the morning. More than 8 hairs are indication to serious hair loss.

While women, suffer from a larger variety of reasons.  Hereditary is the main reason, as with men, and more reasons like: cold weather, high fever diseases, infective diseases, lack of protein, depression, high cholesterol, and more.

Hair loss is a common problem. But most of the people who suffer hair loss never understand why their hair is falling. It is a mystery for most of us. Once we understand all the possible reasons of hair loss, we can surely find out what is happening to us and take an informed decision. Alopecia aerata is one of common causes of hair loss. Let us find out about that.

Hair loss- what is alopecia aerata?

Alopecia aerata is an autoimmune disease. In this disease the body attacks the hair follicles and kills them. The body begins to think that hair follicles are foreign objects and wants to remove them. Why it does that is a mystery.

Hair loss pattern in alopecia aerata

You may begin losing hair in coin size patches. Sometimes the loss will stop after a patch or two and re-grow there after some months. Sometimes the loss continues and you may lose all the hair. This hair may come back after some months. No body can predict about how you will lose hair and when you will get it again. If you have a family member who suffers from a autoimmune disease such as Atopic dermatitis, hay fever etc. your probability of getting alopecia aerata increases. There is no way to stop this hair loss. Only treatment can be done to get the hair back sooner.

Hair Loss - Tips for Success

Summary:
Learn how to get the most out of any hair loss product.  By following these simple guidelines, you can make any hair loss treatment more effective.

Billions of dollars will be spent on hair loss solutions this year. Much of this money will go to waste. Ineffective products and misleading advertising are only partially to blame.  Many consumers are not using these hair loss products in an effective way. Fortunately there are a few simple ways that consumers can increase their chance of success. Following these guidelines will ensure that your money does not go to waste:

Start a Journal

People usually try several different hair loss products before they find something that works for them. Many use two or more products simultaneously. Keeping track of all this information can be frustrating and difficult. The best way to figure out what is working is to keep a journal detailing your progress. You should record all relevant information about the treatment process: when you started, the dosage, cost, and any side effects you experience. This documentation will tell you which products are effective, which ones are not, and allow you to make changes as you see fit.

Take Pictures

Noticing small changes in your hairline over time is extremely difficult. Taking pictures on a regular basis is the most effective ways to track your progress. Always photograph your head from the same angle, in similar lighting conditions. Use a digital camera for best results, most will automatically record the date and time for you. When combined with a treatment journal, these photos provide an invaluable tool that will allow you to judge the effectiveness of products you use.

Do Your Homework

The Internet is flooded with products claiming to cure and treat hair loss. Finding out which ones are legitimate can be a difficult task. When researching products online, beware of those that sound too good to be true. If the company has before and after pictures, examine them closely. If the images were shot from different angles, or in different lighting, be suspicious. These techniques are common camera tricks used to fool the eye, and the consumer. When a company claims their product has a "98% success rate", look for documentation of their clinical study. If the clinical information they provide is vague, or even missing altogether, be wary.

If you follow these steps during your treatment, your chances of success are excellent. One last tip  - any successful regimen requires dedication. Whatever the treatment is, carefully follow the instructions from your doctor or the product manufacturer.
